5 Star Performance Announces MaFia Weekend

On February 27th-28th, 5 Star Performance will be hosting the first tournament of 2021 at the newly renovated Whataburger Sports Complex in Kilgore, Texas. This event is limited to the 5 Star youth in the Region including teams from Dallas, Houston, Louisiana, and East Texas. Baseball players and their families from all over the State, and beyond, will utilize the hotels, restaurants and other amenities of the City throughout the weekend. With nearly 30 teams in age groups ranging from 8U – 14U, as many as 1,000 people are expected to travel for this event.

The event is being covered by one of the top Tournament Organizations in the Country, Five Tool Baseball. It will be the first event of its kind in the area, but it will not be the last. We expect the relationship with Five Tool to grow in East Texas, and bring a new look to the Tournament Scene.

MaFia Weekend will also benefit Sophia Threlkeld, the daughter of Mark Threlkeld who recently passed away. Mark was a long time coach for 5 Star Performance. He touched the lives of so many baseball players in the East Texas area and had called Kilgore home for several years. He is dearly missed by our staff and those athletes who played for or trained with him.

While this event is exclusive to 5 Star, there are eleven other tournaments/events scheduled in the coming months that are open to any and all teams. The Whataburger Sports Complex recently underwent renovations of the playing surface totaling $40,000. With the upgrades, there is no doubt the complex is home to best natural playing surface for youth in all of East Texas.
